Unfortunately, when the 3DS was released, it was not a success. The games for it were only poor, thrown together 3D titles. (like many of the 3D movies we see now-a-days). But the system itself is revolutionary and just needed that right title to be released.
I have been a huge Mario fan my entire life. So when Super Mario 3D Land came out, I had to go buy a 3DS. The game had such awesome reviews and hype that I couldn’t resist the urge.
Right when I turned on the handheld, I felt like I was in the game. I had never experienced 3D without 3D glasses. I would consistently try to not see it as 3D, but convince myself that I was looking at a 2D screen. I couldn’t do it. It was absolutely incredible.
The console really does live up to its name. But the only reason it could do that was with the experts behind Super Mario 3D Land.
The title has two 3D modes. The initially is your classic 3D where items pop out at you, and the second is a cool new depth level of 3D where it appears that you are looking into a physical box.
Super Mario 3D Land offers a lot of ancient time games some nostalgia. A lot of elements from past games have been recycled, like the concept of star coins and even the well-known Tanooki suit from Super Mario Bros 3.
